Vision Committee

Fall 2007

  • Issues such as daycare and preschool were discussed at Stanton School Advisory Committee meetings.

 
Jan 2008

  • A group of concerned community members toured local communities who has addressed the same issues.

 
Feb 2008

  • Stanton Friends was formed. "Building for our youth, community and future."
  • Steering Committee was formed- a group of 20 individuals working for community betterment. This committee meets monthly.
  • Subcommittees were formed that include Grant Committee, Capital Campaign/Marketing, Site Committee and Alumni Committee.

 
March 2008

  • A feasibility study is conducted by Pat Hall of Snyder´s and Associates of Atlantic, Iowa.
  • The Steering Committee researched and collected data from similar sized communities with similar building projects.

 
April 2008

  • Representatives from Stanton Friends will sit on a sub-committee of the Stanton Child Resource Board allowing them to use their 501.C.3 status.
  • Steering Committee met with SWIPCO and discussed grant opportunities.
  • Nancy Lindgren developed committee to work on Alumni research.
  • Steering Committee asked Chamber, Industrial Foundation and City for support and funding for feasibility study.
  • The Stanton Friends hired Snyder and Associates of Atlantic, Iowa to complete a concept plan. The concept plan will include Field Inspections, Establish Base Flood Elevations, Development of Concept Plan, Estimated Cost Projections, and Potential Funding Sources.
  • Stephen Peterson develops webpage for Stanton Friends.

 
May 2008

  • Sue Cosner awarded committee with $5,000 for the feasibility study through the Ripple Effect Grant.
  • Marketing/Capital Campaign met with Dana Wenstrand. Develops drafts of brochure and Question & Answer brochure.
  • Stanton Friends secured an office space.

 
June 2008

  • Developed Donor Recognition Levels.
  • Steering Committee pledged $86,000 at June´s meeting.
  • Set date of Community Capital Campaign Kick-off. Scheduled entertainment - Champions Forever.

 
July 2008

  • Steering Committee shared two presentations to community members (potentially capital campaign volunteers).
  • Grant Committee hired Lana Pals for 80 hours of Grant Research at $30/hr.
  • Total pledged to date $110,000.00

 
August 2008

  • Pat Hall of Snyders and Associates presented the Steering Committee with the progress of the feasibility study- near completion.
  • Capital Campaign Fundraising Team is formed with Jerry & Pat Gilliland and Duane & Janet Dinville as Capital Campaign Chairpersons.
  • Steering Committee hired part time Viking Center Coordinator, Mindy Wookey.
  • Lana Pals was hired as a grant writer along with SWIPCO and ISU extension office.

September 2008

  • Capital Campaign Fundraising Team met with approximately 200 individuals during one-on-one "host" meetings during the month of September.
  • Site Committee selects #1 site (west of school parking lot)
  • Architect Rick Emswiler was hired to do preliminary drawings of building.
  • A mailing went out to Stanton alumni promoting our project and pledge brochure.
  • Steering Committee prepares for October 1st Kickoff event.

October 2008

November 2008

  • Local Government Innovation grant was submitted and public fund raising efforts continue.
  • Newsletter from Stanton Friends was sent via email to residents, alumni, and friends of Stanton.

December 2008

  • Stanton Friends/City of Stanton submitted Community Development Block grant application for construction of the daycare center to the Iowa Department of Economic Development.
  • Mailer sent to all residents, alumni, and friends of Stanton.

January 2009

  • Public fund raising efforts continue, Stanton Friends submitted inquiry application to state for possible stimulus package for shovel ready projects.

February 2009

  • Members of the Steering Committee met with Montgomery County Emergency Coordinator, Kevin Norris on grants available/FEMA and storm shelter possibilities for facility.

March 2009

  • Kevin Currie of Septagon Construction gave the Steering Committee a presentation.
  • Committee met with Iowa Homeland Security of Emergency Management on tornado and safe rooms in facility.

April 2009

  • We began contacting charitable foundations and working on Pre-Disaster Mitigation grant.

May 2009

  • Stanton Friends began working with Homeland Security on a grant.

June 2009

July 2009

  • Stanton Friends collaborate with Stanton Booster Club and Stanton Strivers 4-H Club to participate in RAGBRAI.
  • The Stanton Care Center does a fundraiser on our behalf.
